Honda launches HR-V

All-new Honda HR-V goes on sale in SA

The next generation Honda HR-V has gone on sale in South Africa. The all-new HR-V offers exceptional space, comfort and utility, as well as high levels of safety and the latest technology features, housed within a bold and sleek coupé form.

Sleek coupé like design

With an all-new design the HR-V delivers on style and performance. The coupé like SUV body gives it a sleek and dynamic look, without sacrificing on space.

Two new wheel designs further compliment the sleek design. The Comfort model is fitted with a distinctive 17 inch black and silver diamond-cut alloy, which compliments the gloss black cladding and gloss black grille. The Executive model is fitted with larger 18-inch wheels painted in gunmetal black.

Inside story

The interior is spacious and has a solid, premium SUV feel to it, thanks to contemporary fabrics and soft touch materials. A modern minimalistic look and feel is created thanks to a horizontal sweep of the instrument panel as well as clean lines and surfaces throughout. A new air diffusion system creates a curtain of fresh air beside and above the passengers, which flows from L-shaped vents positioned in the top corners of the dashboard. This system introduces a new concept of air conditioning as it delivers the restorative effects of a natural breeze to all occupants.

Standard across the range is a high-resolution 8-inch touch-screen that has been neatly integrated into the instrument panel. The system features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality as well as Bluetooth, which can be controlled via remote controls on the steering wheel.

Despite overall dimensions that are similar to those of the previous model, the HR-V boasts greater leg and shoulder room as well as rear legroom thanks to a revised centre tank layout and clever packaging of powertrain components. The exceptionally versatile Magic seat set-up has also been retained, which offers both fold-flat or flip-up seat flexibility, depending on load space required.

A variety of new features elevate the driver experience and add to the SUV practicality, including a hands-free power tailgate with walk away close function.

Storage space and connectivity points around the cabin have also been improved, a large centre binnacle drastically expands storage capabilities. The cabin is fitted with two USB charging sockets in the front and two in the rear as well as a wireless charging pad in the lower section of the centre console.

The Executive model features a panoramic glass roof that adds to the open airy atmosphere.

Underpinnings focussed on driving

Compared to its predecessor, the new HR-V features a more rigid body structure that is fitted with extensive suspension, steering and braking enhancements, resulting in a more confident and comfortable driving experience.

Honda’s Agile Handling Assist compliments this hardware particularly when reacting to fast steering inputs or high cornering loads, such as emergency avoidance manoeuvres. The system operates through the Vehicle Stability Assist by lightly applying the brakes to the inner wheels when the steering wheel is turned, resulting in increased vehicle responsiveness and stability.

Under the bonnet

A suite of premium active and passive safety technologies includes Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure as well as front, side and curtain SRS airbags. The Executive model takes this up a notch with a total of six airbags.

The Executive model is also fitted with Honda Sensing active safety technology that offers a broad range of driver assistance features and driver aids as standard. The system incorporates a newly developed front camera that can detect a more comprehensive range of road surfaces and traffic characteristics, including enhanced night-time operation.

The suite of driver assistance technologies that work in conjunction with the Honda Sensing technology includes Collision Mitigation Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation and Auto High-Beam. A Lanewatch camera provides drivers with a clear view of the vehicle’s blind spot, displayed on the central information system. The driver is also able to determine how much driver assistance information is displayed on the instrument binnacle LCD

Model range

The all-new HR-V range consists of two models, both fitted with the 1.5-litre engine and CVT gearbox. Pricing includes a five-year/200 000km warranty and a four-year/60 000km service plan.
